Such a great find! We stopped by on Saturday afternoon specifically for the outdoor area and managed to grab a vacant table. Sinking a few drinks in the afternoon sun with a unique view made for a perfect afternoon. The staff were attentive, the drink selection was impressive, and we'll 100% be visiting again.

So me and my partner usually always go to cromwells for sunday lunch but after today we will not be returning !!!
So we ordered our food was sat in resturaunt not long started our sunday lunch when at table of 8 came in with a medium sized scruffy dog and the girl just started shaking its dog bed 2 foot away from where we were eating
So that was it we couldnt finish our food its disgusting who allows dogs in resturaunts i know some places allow dogs but not in resturaunts in the bar area maybe
So we asked for the bill and my partner politely said to the staff member look there was nothing wrong with the food but we have left half of it becauze youve allowed a dog and someone to bring a dog bed into the resturaunt im sorry but its put us off our food explained about them shaking the dog bed ect for the staff member to say right ok she then came back apoligised and said dogs wernt allowed and yhey didnt know not once were we even offered a free drink money off our bill nothong which wasnt our fault we had to leave our food absolutely appauling customer service and we will not be returning
Who wants to sit in a resturaunt with a dog 2 foot away from you shaking its fur and running round the place its gross especially when your paying for a quality meal and not getting what you pay for and then having to leave half of it and not evan rectifying it!!

Took 3 of my mates from Crewe to Cromwells on Friday as we wanted a few beers and some food, they had a beer festival on so we were able to sample some of them. We picked out a table which was booked for 45 minutes later but that was no problem for the staff as they put our order through which arrived in good time and was all cooked from fresh and was delicious.
Whilst we were there one of the customers had a medical incident which the staff dealt with very professionally. 2 paramedics turned up in under 5 minutes to treat their patient.
We had a good few beers and will definitely return next time.

Excellent and very decently priced room considering your smack bang in the Centre of Shrewsbury. It has all you need for your night away and everything was explained to us on our arrival. A great place to stay and plenty to do in Shrewsbury. I can thoroughly recommend Cromwells tap house for a place to stay.

Great pub! We called in here Saturday evening for a meal, after being recommended by a local. Very friendly staff..we both ordered off the special menu and it was one of the best meals we've had in ages. Would definitely return!

Popped in twice while staying in town...Great selection of beers, ales and cider. Sat in beer garden which was lovely. Went back for sausage and cider festival thr next day !! Awsome selection of ciders. Lovely traditional pub. Friendly staff. Great location

We stayed in the four poster kingsize room last night (23rd May). The room was amazing, the staff are really friendly and nothings too much trouble. The beer garden is great and a real sun trap. I would definitely recommend and stay again. Thank you for a great experience.

Just returned from staying 2 nights. Fabulous place to stay, a friendly welcome, a short walk from the railway station and the main shopping street just around the corner. Superior double room with en suite was very comfortable and secondary glazing blocked out road noise. Bar staff friendly and welcoming and food excellent. Liked the fact that your room key gave you the ability to open the front door and the internal door that leads to the upstairs rooms so you can come and go as you please without having to go into the bar. Will definitely return as Shrewsbury has so much to offer. Highly recommend.

Greated at the bar by staff. Friendly and happy to please. Room was clean and tidy. Yes it is a very old building so please dont go expecting a brand now build room. Lovley oldy worldy room with wooden four post bed. Window open on the the beer garden. Prices are good, the roof top beer garden was stunning. We like a crowd and drinks flowing so it suited us perfectly. It wasnt open extremely late so it was all done by the time for bed. Bedding and towels white and clean. Perfect location for shops bars and restaurants along with sight seeing. Thank you to Molly and the chap behind the bar sorry we didn't get your name. Will definitely recommend and stay again.

Best gourmet pub food in town! had a great meal with friends at a fair price and got talking to friendly staff, who explained all the meat is locally sourced! Will be trying their sister pub the coach and horses soon.

Fantastic pub! A great balance of old school landlord pub and trendy new craft beer place! Excellent choices of beers, lots of local choices and plenty of gluten free and low alcohol options! The food is great. Suits the place perfectly. They have plenty of events on through the year so keep an eye out for those! Also open on Mondays which is rare in this day and age! Highly recommend this place!

Stayed a couple of nights while visiting family nearby. So long as you realize that as a very old building it isn't going to be perfect, it's actually very comfortable. Decent size room, comfy bed, good en suite. There is some noise from the bar downstairs, but it was quiet by around 10pm. The bar served decent wine, and the staff were really lovely. It's in a good location for getting round, and the car park nearby costs £10 for 24 hours (via the NCP app) which we found very reasonable. All in all, a good choice.

Great pit stop while sightseeing in Shrewsbury. Was a bit hungry but just needed a snack to hold me off until dinner. I had a few cups of mulled wine that were served with a small fruit pie and a I bought a bag of crisps. The bar was quiet but playing some classic rock as background music. The staff was very nice and chatty. Great place to shake off the cold and grab a drink.

Had a great lunch of salmon and cod fish cakes with salsa of pineapple and chilli. Good wide selection of beers including three real ales , one I had was excellent. Friendly good service and dog friendly in the bar where you can eat as well as the restaurant. Cannot speak for the rooms as I was not staying in the hotel.

Have lunched here several times and never been disappointed. Food is excellent and plentiful! Service is fantastic! Atmosphere is great - relaxing and friendly! All the facilities are spotless and well kept. Love the fact that you can rely on everything being the same each visit - hate going somewhere, having a good meal, then going back and being disappointed. Never happens here - always fantastic! Just booked for a meal and overnight stay for Valentines!! Very excited! 😍

Very very good staff, made us feel very welcome. Really great food, great location, and comfy bed. Its a lively pub which was good but take earplugs if your a light sleeper and early to bed. Not that noisy but you can hear downstairs. Such a good stay had a great time with you as our base.

Feel this place is a little under rated. Friendly service and the clientel ut attracts.
Not much choice of real ales think 3 on. However, what i had was well kept, had to slow down as too easy to drink. Will have to look what i had but it was a mild/stout.

I was looking to visit family in Shrewsbury and make an overnight stay of it.
I booked the Cromwell because it was reasonably priced and looked quirky.
For the price I couldn't complain at all.
Big comfy bed, TV and a nice shower room. Well cosy! I think think the building is Tudor so was full of character.
I enjoyed drinking various pints of beer in the bar and found the bar staff welcoming. I'd happily stay there again. The added bonus for me was as I'd taken the train, it was only about a 5 minute walk from the station.

My room was very good comfortable and spotless clean it had a spacious bathroom and great shower . Best to book a room online as I save over £40 compared to the price quoted on the phone

The location was great and the pub was really inviting and the menu looked very tasty and professional. Unfortunately the meal we were served, was disappointing. The meat was either over cooked or reheated, and all the dressing’s were completely overpowering, which unfortunately rendered the meal mostly inedible, despite the addition of mayo. I have since been suffering from an upset stomach.
It was a special occasion and I was hoping to treat my partner to a nice birthday meal. Despite this, the staff were really attentive and friendly and the garden was lovely

I was told by my partner that she stayed there with her daughter a few times, she said the rooms were basic and a bit on the dusty side and my partner has possible asthma, hence the one star but I am changing the star three stars MAXIMUM.

Really chuffed with this find. Right in the middle of Shrewsbury and a couple of minutes walk from the main shopping area.
Check in was easy in the main bar. Staff friendly and were shown to our room.
Room is spacious and comfortable and quite quirky as the floor is not level due to the age of the building. First time sleeping in a four poster bed. We both slept well. Road outside is quite noisy during the day but did quieten down later in the evening.
We ate in the pub the first night. Highly recommend. Good quality meals and decent portions.

Found the Tap House after a long search looking for somewhere to eat in the evening. What a great find! Really good traditional pub with great ale selection and a brilliant menu. We were warmly welcomed and taken care of by the two friendly staff on duty - they couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The food (Shropshire beef and Pork belly) was the best we'd had, ever. A 5 star recommendation from us. Thank you.

We visited (and stayed overnight) midweek. The pub/bar was very good, with a wide range of drinks available. As a real ale drinker, I was pleased to see a good choice of local ales. The choice of wines was also extensive. We had an evening meal which was tasty and reasonably priced. The service was excellent and the bar staff couldn't do enough for you.
As for the room, it was clean and comfortable. It wasn't luxurious by any stretch but it was good value for money.

Stayed at Cromwell’s Tap House on the 15th and 16th March 2024, the bedroom spacious and the 4 poster bed very comfortable. Had an evening meal on both nights very nice and good value. The bar was busy especially on Saturday with the rugby on TV and two acts singing in the bar, the atmosphere was electric. Best of all was the welcome from all the staff. This was our first visit to Shrewsbury when we come here again we hope we can stay at Cromwell’s

My aunty & my very good friend came for Sunday lunch, it was absolutely spectacular, the food was all homemade, no hanging about the staff were absolutely fantastic, really looked us. Made us feel really welcome & not rushed at all. Very dog friendly to as my aunt bought her dogs with her, we just had the nicest afternoon. I will be recommending to all my friends & clients. The room was lovely and clean. A little on the small side but what can you expect in a place like this. The only thing that needs improving was tha hair dryer!
The price is brilliant to be fair and the bed was comfy and the room cosy. Would recommend for a short stay.

The all new Cromwell's has a very different vibe to the old one, it's loads better!
Previously I had tended to avoid this place (see old review below) but a change of ownership has done it the world of good.
Great selection of beers, guest special draughts and a beer fridge to die for. The food menu is a little small but packs in some brilliant choices, all with a twist or unique slant. From making their own vinegar to turning a bratwurst into a restaurant dish it's one of those refreshing menus that gives you something you haven't had before, or twists an old favourite to make it intriguing.
Food prices are very reasonable, compared to other places in town you are getting good portions with unmistakable hand made elements that leave you feeling satisfied and not out of pocket.
They do show sports in the bar area, so it can get busy and a little noisy. A family meal with children probably isn't a great plan if it coincides with the Manchester derby. That said, if you can get a table in the restaurant room adjacent then you wouldn't notice.
Really enjoyable place, good beer and food, atmosphere and even a spot of people watching if you can get a window seat.
I've not tried the beer garden since it changed hands, but the forecast is good on Friday so there is a pint and bratwurst with my name on it
Edit: beer garden is still a wonderful sun trap, it is still unfortunately tarnished by inconsiderate smokers. It's a shame that either the upper or lower area isn't smoke free. You don't want to be eating your lunch whilst getting wafted by a mix of tobacco smoke and vanilla/cherry/tangerine vape clouds

I rarely visit these days but popped along for an evening beer in the beer garden. Unfortunately, the thing that puts me off is still prevalent. Smokers.
It is impossible to sit outside without the constant whiff of cigarettes. It is as if all the smokers of Shrewsbury choose this beer garden. I certainly wouldn't eat here purely for this reason
If the owners ever make the garden smoking free it would certainly pop up on my radar. My rating reflects my distaste for the smoker atmosphere. If you aren't bothered by it then you would likely rate it higher

Lovely pub, first time here and the staff were super friendly, beer garden is great.
Josh and Clare behind the bar are some of the friendliest staff I've ever met. Great pub.

Dined 23/10/23 table of 4 Lovely friendly and very inviting . Staff gave excellent service couldn’t do enough for us even made our friends Dog very welcome with plenty of treats . Roast dinner was the best we had eaten in a very long time (that’s not including our own cooked roast at home ) 😃only joking . Exceptional value for money and would definitely return again when visiting Shewsbury again .

One of the places I looked at staying, being dog friendly. Another place came up, but wanted to visit while we were staying in Shrewsbury. Very friendly service. Excellent food. Excellent well looked after beers. I would highly recommend coming here.

Food was very delicious, we had Sunday roast and it was the best I’ve eaten out in a long time, meats were very tender and flavoursome and good selection of veg, could have done without new potatoes but that’s being finickity, we still ate them.

Came in for a meal with a friend. A beautiful venue which felt cosy and cared for. Service was prompt and the cocktails were very tasty. I had the gnocchi which was out of this world! My friend had the halloumi burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were annoyed at ourselves as neither had been before, but we will definitely be coming back again!

Also popped in for Sunday lunch with my family. Everything was brilliant, a beautiful spread and presentation was amazing. Two lots of beef and a fish and chips. Three very happy and full people! Beef was perfect and pink and the cauliflower cheese especially deserves its own shout out! All in all amazing. Staff are very friendly and on point. A great dining experience!

Saw this place on Google maps when looking at visiting Shrewsbury. Friendly service. Excellent beers well kept beer. And the food, again was excellent. I can highly recommend the Pork bellywith a spicy pineapple sauce. My girlfriend had the cod n chips again tasty. As was the apple crumble and custard.

We stayed here for 2 nights. The reason for giving 5 stars is that we felt so welcome like part of the family. The staff and owner Nick went out of the way to make sure you were comfortable and happy and adapted food or drink to ensure satisfaction. Room was good, great shower. A bit of noise from outside being on a popular road. Would definitely recommend.

We booked a table for a Saturday night and we were sat at a table amongst all the drinkers in the main bar. It was starting to get very busy so we asked to be moved. The staff were very accommodating, and they moved us into the restaurant area, we had this all to ourselves which was much better. They were really attentive and made sure we had everything we needed, the service was very good.
The food itself was amazing.

Stayed one night in a fabulous large room, decent bathroom, good comfortable bed. Very warm welcome, helpful staff. Didn’t use the bar or breakfast facilities.

Awesome Taphouse and Hotel. Nick (owner) was very friendly and helpful. Him and his staff provide top notch service. From the food and beer to the hotel rooms. I was comfortable, secure, and taken care of every step of the way. The hotel get booked quickly. I waited til the week before to book and they only had one night available, but Im glad I got at least one night. Thanks to Nick and his Staff.

Amazed at how good the food was. Popped in for a late lunch and absolutely loved it. Great chefing. Duty manager was also on the ball. Service great, food great, prices great, no wonder its so busy.

Been a few times to Cromwell's for food and every time we go the food is absolutely fantastic, and is fast becoming one of our favourite places to go in Shrewsbury

Usual pub food but with a twist.
Hidden gem. Will be back to Shrewsbury just to eat here.
Food was the best and the staff were friendly and Professional. Could ask for more.

An absolutely great Sunday lunch location. Friendly staff, brilliant landlord, and the food is amazing, not the cheapest, but you pay for what you get. Highly highly recommended.

We loved our stay here... We chose room 5 because of of the photos we had seen
The four poster bed was very impressive... It felt firm to sit on but was very comfortable to sleep on
My favourite thing was the double picture windows over looking the incredible house opposite
The floor is wonky which just adds to the charm... Just loved it
Tea and coffee making facilities provided in room as well
Added bonus was the lovely sun terrace at the back that we weren't aware of... We were lucky enough to have sunshine and sitting outside looking over the rooftops and the church spire listening to the birds was just perfect
We didn't eat here but have to say the food coming out of the kitchen looked delicious
It's also in the perfect location so book a room and enjoy beautiful Shrewsbury ♥️

Visited for the first time for Sunday lunch. It was the best Sunday lunch we've had for a long time. The staff were outstanding, so attentive and polite. Will definitely be returning. And we took our little dog who was also made very welcome and enjoyed his dog biscuits!! Thank you fro a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Good Beer (real ale).
Stayed the night, good room although noisy as it’s on the through road.
Fantastic location in a lovely town.
Looking forward to returning to Shrewsbury and seeing more of the pubs, shops and buildings here, wonderful old English town.

Enjoyed my visit there. Nice selection of beers on tap at the bar and a further 29 on a beer menu at the table. Unfortunately I'm just recovering from a cold so couldn't taste anything but the beers and food looked very nice. I'll definitely return.

Really friendly place great atmosphere staff very polite and helpful food and service excellent dirty plates kept up quickly. The toilets are nice and clean!good choice of beers even met the owner great guy and even gave us some freebies for our man-cave! Will definitely be back as we come to Shrewsbury a couple of times a year.

Great food, excellent service, decently priced! Absolutely recommend for anyone looking for good beer & delicious food in Shrews 👍 we had the hummus starter, falafel burger & haloumi sandwich - amazingly well done by the chef

Decent small pub great beer garden, compact inside the bar area so could be difficult to find a seat when the place gets busy, quite an average pub feels quite basic fast service though even when it’s busy which is always good! Good place to stop off if you’re walking through

The pub has reopened with new owners and a different, more traditional 'pub' like atmosphere. There is a good drinking /seating area and a separate restaurant area and although we didn't eat there, the food smelled amazing! The new staff are all super friendly and lovely and happy to recommend new drinks and cocktails. Will definitely be going back

Cromwell’s has always been a nice place and nice environment but under the new owners it’s now exceptional. The staff are so friendly and ready to help, the food is absolutely outstanding, amongst the best available in Shrewsbury, and the range of beers and ales is first class. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
